DECEMBER 20, acknowledging the current issues, the Faculty of Public Relations and Communication (PRC) organized the “Social media using culture among young people today” workshop, with Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Them - expert accompanying UEFers in providing the specialized and valuable viewpoints of how to use social media in a civilized and effective manner.

With professional knowledge of cultural studies, the speakers provided practical and effective information that gave UEFers a clearer view of social media using culture within today’s youth. Particularly, the workshop was divided into three main parts: Social networks and the networking culture, explore the Vietnamese youth’s networking culture and tips on fixing the limits in using social media.
Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Them opened the workshop with the definition of social networks and compared the differences between online and offline social media, gave a more comprehensive view of these two forms of social networking. Especially, another interesting characteristic but less-known: gender-based differences in social networking - An issue directly affecting ways to interact and foster relationships based on the digital platform.
In the current context where social media is continuously developing and directly affecting the young generation, it can be said that understanding the use of social networks is an essential thing. In order to “anatomize” the networking culture among Vietnamese youth, the speakers analyzed the characteristics and detailedly positioned traditional Vietnamese culture. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Them shared the in-depth influence of this culture to how Vietnamese youth approach and make use of current social network services, which shed lights on the interconnection of tradition and modernity of online behaviors within Vietnamese young generation.
More than just providing in-depth perspective on the connection between traditional culture and development of modern society, the workshop also raised UEFers’s awareness of challenges in maintaining the cultural identity amidst the flow of development on the digital era. With sharp analyses and practical solutions by the speakers, this is surely an effective tool helping UEFers to conquer the subject of Vietnamese Cultural Establishment in the upcoming time.
