FFAers offered career orientation and discovery at Big4 with economics experts

FEBRUARY 28. With the aim to provide Sophomore and Senior UEFers a more comprehensive view on career opportunities upon internship, The Faculty of Finance and Accounting (FFA) organized the “Beyond Audit: Exploring Career Paths in the Big 4 - Tax, Consulting, Sustainability & More!” workshop. The event attracted numerous UEFers interested in the field of Accounting, International Accreditation, especially with the honorary assistance of the speakers who are currently working at Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants  (ISCA).

 

The workshop provided FFAers further experiences for the development journey ahead 

The workshop was joined by Mr. Stephen Nguyen - Country Manager, Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA); Mr. Wesley Chua - Senior Manager, Transfer Pricing EY Consulting Vietnam Joint Stock Company, ISCA Vietnam; Mr. Phu Nguyen - Business Development Lead, Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) và Ms. Ma Truc Mai - Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA). On behalf of the Faculty of Finance and Accounting were Dr. Ha Thi Thuy - Dean of the Faculty, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam - Deputy Dean of the Faculty.

The sharings provided FFAers an opportunity to better understand the practical Finance - Auditing market, helping them shape their personal development goals from the early years of university. Dr. Ha Thi Thuy shared the importance of connecting with enterprises during the study and career orientation for UEFers. She encouraged the students to make use of internships, practicum programs to acquire practical experiences while studying.

One of the workshop’s highlights was the sharings from the internships alumni currently working at the Big4. From their sharings, UEFers further acknowledged the career development progress, and provided a detailed job application process, from interns to official employees. The fundamental factors such as CVs, how to pass specialized tests, interviews and some essential skills required when working in a professional environment, all were precisely presented. 

 

Speaker Wesley Chua shared on Transfer Pricing - An interested fundamental field in international taxes 

Mr. Wesley Chua further shared on the opportunities and challenges in Transfer Pricing. This is a fundamental field in international taxes, including various job aspects. With its specialized nature and the limited number of experts, Transfer Pricing offers many attractive career opportunities, especially in large consulting firms such as the Big 4. In addition, The speaker also highly valued the dynamic working environment that offered limitless innovation for the ones pursuing in this field. 

Business representative of ISCA, Mr. Phu Nguyen and Ms. Ma Truc Mai expressed great expectations on upcoming activities between businesses and students, aiming to train the high quality human resources for both domestic and international markets. Simultaneously, the business also introduced the Global Talent Program in Singapore, exclusive for ASEAN University students.

Through the workshop, UEFers get to meet and interact with the leading experts in the field of accounting, auditing, visiting corporations, enterprises, larger auditing firms and governmental offices in Singapore,...

Many students expressed excitement towards the practical information provided by their seniors. Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc - Third-year student of Accounting shared:” I used to think the Big 4 were only for the exceptionally talented, but through the workshop, I understand that if I have the right path and prepare thoroughly, the opportunity is definitely within reach.”

The event concluded in a robust atmosphere, with many questions from the students continuing to be posed for the speakers.This is more than just an information sharing session but also the beginning of a long term collaboration between UEF and ISCA. This collaboration paved the way for various opportunities for internships and specialized development for UEFers, helping them prepare a solid foundation before internship period and gradually conquer their dream of working in the international accounting and auditing environment.
