English learners usually encounter moments of awkward silence when communicating with foreigners for a variety of reasons, ranging from shyness, lack of confidence, to a limited range of lexical resources, etc. With a view to helping students break the ice and avoid conversation killers with foreigners, on February 26, the International Institute will host a program titled "How to start a conversation with new foreign friends".
The program is designed for students of the international undergraduate program, class of 2021-2025 with the honor presence of Ms. Le Thi Phuong Thao – Project Director of Ngoc Phuong Dong Invest Joint Stock Company, Visiting Lecturer at the UEF International Institute, Mr. Daniel Naville – Lecturer at the UEF International Institute, and Ms. Maya Smotrina – Lecturer at the UEF International Institute.
Tips provided by the lecturers will help students improve their English communication skills.
In today’s international environment, foreign languages are key factors that enable students to integrate into the world and acquire new knowledge. However, many students find it hard to naturally engage in a conversation with foreigners and struggle to develop their flow of ideas, thus sometimes remaining in silence is what they opt for as an easy way out.
The International Institute hopes that with the experience and tips from the experts and lecturers, students, especially freshmen who are still unfamiliar with the international bilingual environment, can boost their limits in communicating with foreigners.
The program will take place at 14:00 on February 26
