DECEMBER 21, the Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Science Conference was held at UEF, which is a grand-scale event that the campus took the honor of co-hosting this year, in the series of activities of the Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Festival 2024.
The Ho Chi Minh City International Martial Arts Science Conference 2024 isn’t just a forum where scholars, researchers publish scientific progress, latest scientific researches result in martial arts but also a place to share, exchange of the quintessence of martial arts from around the world. This conference is a valuable opportunity for attendees to dive deeper into the history, techniques and philosophies of martial arts, while expanding the international cooperative partnership in this field.
The event featured traditional Vietnamese martial arts such as Vovinam, Traditional martial arts alongside international ones such as Pencak Silat, Taekwondo, Karate, Muay Thai… creating a fusion picture of global martial arts.
The ceremony witnessed the participation of numerous leaders, experts, scientists, trainers from many countries around the world. On the side of UEF were Dr, Nhan Cam Tri - UEF Vice President and Mr. Bui Quang Dong - Director of the Department of Student Services.

Followed Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan’s speech, Dr. Nhan Cam Tri also stressed on the roles of martial arts in physical, mental and cultural development. He also expressed his pride of UEF being chosen as the co-host of this important event, while asserting UEF’s commitment in promoting international martial arts and exchange events.

The six reports presented at the conference included:” The global network of martial arts: mission and challenges” - Prof. Kwon HUH - Member of the Womau Board of Directors - Mongolia International University; “Cultural values and roles of martial arts in modern society” - Dr, Nguyen Minh Nhut - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Society, People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; “Holistic approach: Muay Thai Boran of warriors” - Mr. Chinawut Sirisompan - Grandmaster Woody; “Arnis is the national sport and martial art” - Mr. Richardson Gialogo; “Implementing AI in promotion and website development of HKF” - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology (HUFLIT), Vice President of HKF; “Research on the effects of Thai Cuc Tran Gia on the elderly after a year of practice at the Nguyen Tri Phuong Center of Sports, District ten, HCMC”- Master Tong Hoang Lan.
Additionally, the seminar “Themed science: “Martial arts relics, values alongside opportunities and challenges in the development of martial arts in the current era” was organized with the sharing of Dr, Vo Danh Hai - Vice President of WoMAU, Prof. Kwon Huh - expert of ICM, Grandmaster Ha Thi Yen Oanh - President of Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Martial Arts Federation. The seminar stressed on the philosophy of life and the will to strive for excellence, which was forged from traditional Vietnamese martial arts, and at the same time assert that martial art isn’t just the art of fighting but a unique cultural heritage, enriched with humanity. And followed by maintaining and spreading the Vietnamese cultural, historical values and the people to international friends.
The seminar brought an in-depth perspective in maintaining and developing martial arts
At the end of the seminar, the conference broadened various new exciting perspectives, helped trainers, masters and researchers better understand the development orientation of both Vietnamese and International martial arts. From then, the Vietnamese martial art community will have a better basis to build development strategy, while maintaining traditional values and meeting the trend of globalization at the same time. The conference didn't just contribute to promoting the image of Vietnamese martial arts to the world but also promotes cultural exchange, raises the awareness of the values of martial arts and creates motivation to develop sports tourism in Ho Chi Minh city.
