On 24/7/2021 morning, UEF’s Faculty of Laws has held an online scientific conference with the topic "Impacts of the European Union - Vietnam Trade Agreement and Bilateral Investment Protection Agreement on Vietnamese law".
The program saw the participation of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngo Cao Cuong – Deputy Principal of the UEF, MA. Mach Tran Huy – Deputy Chief of the School Office, MA. Nguyen Pham Hai Ha - Deputy Head of the Institute for Postgraduate Education and Science & Technology, MA. Bui Quang Dong – Head of Student Affairs Department, Dr. Vo Van Thanh Than – Dean of Faculty of International Languages and Cultures, and lecturers of Laws Faculty.
In addition, lecturers working at universities and lawyers with expertise in the fields related to the topic have enthusiastically participated in reporting, discussing and sharing the matters.
At the beginning of the event, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngo Cao Cuong said: “The workshop has received a lot of responses from lecturers inside and outside the UEF. Lecturers in the Faculty of Laws have worked hard during the pandemic to create this practical academic exchange environment. Scientific research activities among lecturers will make an important contribution to improving the quality of education at UEF”.
The workshop has taken place with 4 presentations, including: "Challenges to the internal process of labor regulations in Vietnam's free trade agreements" reported by Dr. Nguyen Duc Vinh – Foreign Trade University; "Disputes and settlement of disputes between investors and the Government in investment activities under the investment protection agreement signed between Vietnam and the European Union (EVIPA)" by Dr. - Lawyer Luong Khai An; "The impacts of Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) on the improvement of Vietnam's intellectual property law" by Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh Dao – Banking University; "Fundamental Breach to Avoid The Contract Under CISG 1980" by MA. Pho Hung Binh - lecturer of UEF’s Law Faculty.
In the lecturers’ presentations, many issues were raised such as: Overview of the relevant legal system, the transformation of the ILO into the Vietnamese legal system, the social responsibility of enterprises, resolution of disputes between the two agreements, settlement method, applicable law and mechanism for settlement, legal status and enforcement of intellectual property law in Vietnam, perfecting intellectual property laws when Vietnam signs the Vietnam - EU free trade agreement...
Through the seminar, lecturers and lawyers have had the opportunities to exchange and discuss practical issues related to the two agreements: free trade and bilateral investment protection. Although held online, the activity was very exciting, contributing to promoting the scientific research movement of the UEF's lecturers.
