The International Relations faculty organizes a workshop on the development of a training program to adapt to common changes

With an aim of equipping students with the ability to adapt to changes and having skills in risk management, effectively deal with all inequalities, and skills in solving integrated problems of the working environment, in the morning of 26/7/2021, the International Relations Faculty has held a scientific conference with the theme “Developing a training program for international relations to adapt to the New Normal”.

The online workshop saw the participation of the following guests: Ambassador, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thai Yen Huong – Chairman of ASEAN Intergovernmental Committee on Human Rights (AICHR) 2020, former Deputy Director of the Diplomatic Academy – Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Prof.Dr. Pham Quang Minh – Faculty of International Studies, former Principal of the University of Social Science and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; MA. Vu Quoc Anh – Deputy Head of the Institute of Social Science and Humanities – HUTECH; Dr. Pham Thi Bich Lan – Head of the International Relations Department – HUFLIT; Dr. Nguyen Minh Man – Head of International Studies Sub-department, HCMC University of Pedagogy; Mr. Tran Dinh Vu Hai – Deputy Head of Political and Economic Affairs Department, HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs; and Ambassadors and diplomats of Vietnam in a number of countries, and leaders and lecturers of UEF’s International Relations Faculty.
 

The conference gathered many experts, researchers, and lecturers in the field of International Relations



The issues of developing training programs in International Relations in the general changes situation gain serious attention.

At the beginning of the conference, Dr. Tran Thanh Huyen – Head of UEF’s International Relations Faculty has presented the introductory report with the topic “The world has changed – We Must Change”. The report revolves around the issues of the characteristics of the “New Normal” period and how the workd has changed since the inception of the Covid pandemic, what factors are required for sustainable global citizenship compared to global citizenship before 2020, and how the International Relations will have to change to meet the goal of creating sustainable global citizens.
 
At the first report session, the research topics presented included: “Problems posed with teaching methods of international relations major since the Covid pandemic 2020” – Dr. Dao Minh Hong, UEF’s International Relations Faculty; “HCMC’s diplomacy affairs in the New Normal context and the current state of HCMC’s diplomatic human resources – some proposals” – Mr. Tran Dinh Vu Hai – Deputy Head of Political and Economic External Affairs Department, HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs; “The International Studies of HCMC University of Pedagogy innovates teaching and learning methods under the impact of Covid-19 pandemic (from 3/2020 – 6/2021)” – Dr. Nguyen Minh Man – Head of International Studies Faculty, HCMC University of Pedagogy; “Innovating teaching methods of International Relations major to adapt to the New Normal period” – Mr. Dong Minh Quang – BA. of International Relations, University of Social Science and Humanities, Vietnam National University, HCMC.






The education program of specialized subjects is also researched to suit the situation.

In the second report session, research topics have emphasized on the specialized subjects including: “Identifying the current situation and proposing solutions in teaching and learning the “Global problems” of the International Relations Faculty’s students in the New Normal” – MA. Le Phuong Cat Nhi, UEF’s International Relations Faculty; “The importance of Geopolitics subject in International Relations” – MA. Nguyen The Phuong, UEF’s International Relations Faculty; “Factors affecting teaching methods of Vietnamese Foreign Policy subject” – MA. Pham Hoang Son, UEF’s International Relations Faculty.

After each report session, the guests of the seminar have discussed, commented and evaluated on the topic, raised issues to develop and improve the research topic.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had negative impacts on many areas of the social life, but it also poses an opportunity for restructuring the basic contents of the international relations major. That's when populism, race, climate change, economic inequality, artificial intelligence, great power competition, disrupted global supply chains, and pandemics will play a decisive role in reframing global problems.

The research issues presented in the seminar have partly contributed to helping lecturers design and rebuild training programs in the field of International Relations in particular and other disciplines in general to promptly adapt to the New Normal times. At the same time, the seminar has also identified other important issues that need to be studied in order to comprehensively develop the field of International Relations.
