UEF delegation attended QS Higher Education Summit on Nov 9, 2024

From November 5 to November 7, 2024, the UEF leadership delegation, including Dr. Ngo Minh Hai, Vice President, and Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation, attended the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific ,themed “Shifting Landscapes, Collaborative Solutions: Pioneering Innovation in Asia-Pacific Higher Education.”
The conference was hosted by the Macau University of Science and Technology (China). As an annual event, it brought together nearly 2,000 leaders, higher education experts, and government representatives from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss current and future challenges in higher education. It also served as a platform for collaborative discussions on solutions through academic partnerships and research initiatives.


 
Overview of the QS Higher Ed Summit 2024

The year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds, UK) organizing the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia-Pacific. Over the past two decades, QS has brought together thousands of university leaders and government representatives from across the Asia-Pacific region, fostering thought leadership and driving positive change. This year's QS Higher Ed Summit is centered on "Shifting Landscapes, Collaborative Solutions: Pioneering Innovation in Asia-Pacific Higher Education."
The summit is designed to equip leaders with actionable insights and strategies to address the most pressing challenges 
facing higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. It offers a comprehensive perspective of higher education in a rapidly evolving landscape, featuring renowned speakers, experts, and university administrators on key topics such as: Higher education strategies and challenges; Artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education; Sustainability and the role of universities; Adapting to a rapidly changing job market; Building a lifelong learning ecosystem; Collaboration in scientific research; Forging strategic partnerships to tackle higher education challenges.


Explored collaboration opportunities with Universities at the Summit.

Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on key challenges facing university leaders, including the integration of emerging topics demanded by students, curriculum updates, and innovative teaching methods that enable students to apply knowledge to real-world business and community challenges. They emphasized the importance of equipping students with essential skills such as problem-solving, design thinking, critical thinking, teamwork, lifelong learning, digital literacy, and AI proficiency. The discussions also addressed the ethical use of new technologies like ChatGPT, developing high-quality content despite limited resources, aligning innovation with industry needs, and ensuring that graduates are prepared for a rapidly evolving job market. Additionally, experts explored the role of micro-credentials in providing students and professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to adapt to current and emerging job opportunities. A significant focus was placed on the challenges and opportunities that AI brings to education, helping institutions navigate and thrive in an AI-driven future.


UEF received QS 4-Star Certificate (Original, Cycle 2)

At the QS Higher Ed Summit 2024, UEF was officially awarded the QS Stars international certification (original, second cycle) by QS, in the presence of and with congratulations from numerous universities worldwide. UEF is proud to be the first university in Vietnam to adopt the new QS Stars 6.0 framework, which was launched in February 2024. This updated framework evaluates institutions based on nine key criteria: Teaching; Employability; Facilities; Good Governance; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Academic Development; Programme Strength; Global Engagement; Environmental Impact. UEF is honored to achieve a 5 Stars in five out of the nine categories: Teaching, Facilities, Employability, Good Governance, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.


University Presidents/Vice Presidents Dialogue Session.

Additionally, UEF leaders participated in the University Presidents/Vice Presidents Dialogue Session, an exclusive forum hosted by QS for senior university executives across the Asia-Pacific region. This session provided a platform for higher education leaders to discuss pressing challenges and future preparedness in response to the rapidly evolving job market and emerging skill demands. Key discussions focused on the emergence, benefits, and impact of AI in education and research, as well as the critical role of international collaboration in addressing global challenges such as sustainability and climate change through strategic partnerships.


 
Dr. Ngo Minh Hai participated in the “Borderless Research Collaboration” session.

At this year’s summit, Dr. Ngo Minh Hai also participated in the panel discussion on “Borderless Research Collaboration.” The session explored how virtual exchange platforms can revolutionize collaborative research in higher education by fostering international partnerships and overcoming geographical barriers. These innovations enable richer research experiences and drive more impactful outcomes. The discussion highlighted the growing potential of borderless exchange platforms in transforming research methodologies for scholars across the Asia-Pacific region.
