Learn "How to appoint judges in US courts" with experts

 

After the Center's launching activity, lecturers, partners and students learned about the topic "How to appoint judges in US courts" with Dr. Vo Duc Duy - Member Lawyer of Santa Law, Chief Lawyer of Mekong Vime JSC Group, Advisor of USLC (UEF). The speaker is a Vietnamese American with high expertise in the Law industry and brought useful information about expertise, research and practice.

To improve the efficiency of receiving information, Dr., Lawyer Vo Duc Duy gave an overview of the court structure, the selection process for Federal Judges, State and District Judges in the United States to see many differences compared to Vietnam. Accordingly, the United States does not implement a training regime for appointing judges. Federal Judges and State Judges are selected from among lawyers with practice experience. For lawyers in the US, it is required to graduate with a bachelor's degree in a major before applying to law school.

The top criterion for appointing judges is to have professional capacity and political qualities. All Federal Judges are appointed by the President after consultation with the White House staffs, the Attorney General's Office, several Senators and other political activists. The FBI, a division of the Department of Justice, typically conducts a procedural security clearance.

In addition, the speaker also provided some other information about the training of judges, introduced the American Bar Association (ABA), and how to appoint and discipline judges.

Through the seminar, all the guests, lecturers and students had a better understanding of the way and process of appointing judges of the US Court, thereby helping those who have been and are currently practicing to have an overview of Judges in the US, to compare and learn about the judiciary of a developed country in the legal profession.
