DECEMBER 13 - With the aim of guiding, advising, and introducing qualified job opportunities in Japan for students majoring in Japanese Language, Center of Vietnam-Japan Human Resources Development, the Faculty of Languages and International Cultures at UEF, in collaboration with Aso College Group (Fukuoka, Japan), organized the workshop “Overview of employment in Japan for foreigners and opportunities for Vietnamese students”. This is not only an opportunity to broaden career horizons but also a significant step toward promising journeys in Japan’s dynamic labor market.
The workshop provided UEFers with a comprehensive overview of Japan’s labor market
Attending the program were Dr. Vo Van Thanh Than - Director of Center of Vietnam-Japan Human Resources Development, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Languages and International Cultures; Mr. Cao Do Quyen - Program Assistant, Japanese Language; Mr. Akao Naoki - Principal of the International Center - ASO College Group and Mr.Minami Hiroya - Director of Terakoya Company.
UEF’s representative presented a gift to the speaker
Before starting the program, Dr. Vo Van Thanh Than shared: “80% of UEF students majoring in Japanese Language secure employment in companies after graduation. By their final year, many students are still deciding between pursuing a career in Vietnam or working in Japan. In addition, there are also students who have participated in internships in Japan and want to continue their careers there. This workshop will provide students with a clearer understanding of these options. Make the most of the conditions provided by the university to find a good job opportunity.”
The workshop was divided into three main sections: Introduction about the characteristics of Japanese companies; Explanation of the requirements for job seeking and employment in Japan; Overview of the working environment and culture in Japan in order to provide a comprehensive perspective on career opportunities in the Japanese job market.
Mr. Akao Naoki shared valuable insights into the practical working environment in Japan
Known as a country with a strong emphasis on discipline, Mr. Akao Naoki shared with UEFers some distinctive cultural characteristics in the working environment in Japan. According to him, Japanese businesses always prioritize cleanliness and tidiness, not only in the workspace but also in the appearance of their employees. In particular, maintaining a neat and professional demeanor is also a way to show respect for the company and colleagues. In addition, strict adherence to punctuality is also considered an indispensable aspect of Japanese office culture. Punctuality is not only a basic requirement but also a reflection of respect for others' time, professionalism, and a sense of responsibility.
Along with these traits, communication skill and foreign language proficiency is also an indispensable factor, especially for students who want to work in Japan. Mr. Akao Naoki also emphasized the importance of having “vitality” in the workplace, the ability to collaborate effectively in teams and a commitment to continuous learning. These qualities can be considered the key for UEFers to meet the expectations of the Japanese employers while also serving as a stepping stone to advancing further in their international careers.
Mr.Minami Hiroya shared insights into visa issues for working in Japan
Through the program, students also “decoded” many questions including: what questions are commonly asked during interviews, the purpose of Japanese businesses in recruiting foreigners, salary levels of popular occupations, visa qualifications, application timelines, recruitment processes, types of interviews, etc.
UEFers actively interacted and discussed questions with the speaker
It can be said that Japan always welcomes international talent, and seizing opportunities while equipping oneself with the appropriate skills will be the key to unlocking future prospects. Hopefully, with the insights provided in the workshop, UEFers will have a comprehensive understanding of the Japanese labor market, acquire essential knowledge about job search strategies and ways to integrate into the international working environment, thereby inspiring them to strive for high-quality career opportunities in the future.
