Location: Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a public, co-educational university located in Hays, Kansas, United States. It is the fourth-largest of the six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, with an enrollment of more than 13,000 students.

Climate: Hays sits near the convergence of North America's humid subtropical climate (humid continental climate), and temperate semi-arid climate zones and has features of all three climates. It typically experiences hot summers with variable humidity and cool winters. On average, January is the coldest month, and July is both the hottest and wettest month. Over the course of a year, temperatures range from an average low of 16.2 °F (−8.8 °C) in January to an average high of 92.4 °F (33.6 °C) in July.

Overview

Founded in 1902 on the plains of western Kansas, when just two faculty members and a 19-course curriculum greeted 34 students, the university has grown to a faculty of more than 500, a support staff of nearly 300 and a student body that exceeds 13,000, including more than 3,500 FHSU students at partner universities in China.

The university now offers hundreds of courses in each of its four main colleges-Education and Technology, Arts and Sciences, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Health and Life Sciences-and in its Graduate School.

The student-faculty ratio at Fort Hays State University is 17:1, and the school has 43.2 percent of its classes with fewer than 20 students.
